Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City
12th November 2025
This week's edition is on the opening up of Sankeien’s Autumn Foliage Promenade.
Sankeien is a Japanese garden located in Yokohama's Honmoku. Inside the extensive garden, there are 17 historical buildings, including important cultural properties, gathered from places such as Kyoto and Kamakura. Visitors can enjoy seeing how they blend in seamlessly with the natural scenery of each season.
In autumn, the yellow and red hues of the trees in Sankeien brighten up the garden's buildings even further, and during the day, the beautiful golden ginkgo trees and vibrantly colored maples evoke the tranquil atmosphere of an ancient capital.
For a limited period, between Friday 21st November and Sunday 14th December, a promenade famous for its autumn foliage, located behind the Important Cultural Property, "Chōshūkaku", will be open to the public. As you climb the stone steps of the promenade, which takes about five minutes to walk around, you can enjoy a space surrounded by lush nature, filled with the sounds of babbling water and birdsong.
