Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City
11th June 2025
This week’s edition is on preparations for storm and flood damage.
Today, we will be outlining three important points to remember in readiness for typhoons or heavy rain. These include advance preparations and precautions to take when fleeing.
The first point is to use a hazard map to find out in advance where the danger zones in your area are.
Check in advance the hazards in your area and the evacuation sites that will be opened up.
The second point is to think in advance about what to do if you need to evacuate to a place other than your home.
When considering where to evacuate to, in addition to nearby evacuation sites, include options such as hotels and the homes of acquaintances and friends in safe areas.
The third point is the timing of evacuation.
Please get updates on weather information and evacuation information at regular intervals, through television, radio and the internet.
You should also register for "Yokohama City Disaster Prevention Information Emails" so you can receive information including weather warnings and advisories. To register for the English version, search for "Yokohama Disaster Prevention".
You should evacuate as soon as possible if your situation requires it, even if evacuation information has not yet been issued.
As a tool to facilitate the consideration of the aforementioned points, “My Timeline” is available. “My Timeline” is a personalized evacuation action plan organized in chronological order according to each individual’s family structure and living environment. You can download it from the city's website or create it on the ‘Yokohama City Evacuation Navi’ app. Please take this opportunity to prepare now for emergencies.
