Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City
4th June 2025
This week's edition is on the 'Hakkeijima Hydrangea Festival, which will take place at Kanazawa Ward’s Hakkeijima from 7th June.
Surrounded by the sea, Hakkeijima is a place where you can enjoy flowers of every season, and during the rainy season, 20,000 hydrangeas - the most in the prefecture - are at their best!
Among these, is the “Hakkei Blue”, an original hydrangea. Its name was chosen through a public competition in 2013 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Hakkeijima. Be sure to look out for the “Hakkei Blue”, with its light blue petals that evoke the scenery of Hakkeijima, and its pretty double-petalled flowers.
At the '25th Hakkeijima Hydrangea Festival', which will be held until Sunday 29th June, visitors will be able to participate in events such as a stamp rally and workshops.
In the ‘Hakkei Hydrangeas Tour’, where participants collect stamps at eight locations along the pathways of Hakkeijima, you will receive a reward if you collect five stamps, so make sure you get one!
Entry to Hakkeijima is free. You can enjoy the hydrangeas while taking a stroll or stop for a break at one of the island's restaurants or cafés.
The hydrangeas of Hakkeijima can only be enjoyed now, in early summer, so don’t miss this opportunity to visit!
