Shinagawa City is holding “The Great Uchimizu (Water Sprinkling) Campaign Shinagawa 2025".

Let's blow a cool breeze down the hot summer streets, under the campaign catchphrase, ‘Let’s lower mid-summer temperatures by 2℃!

‘Uchimizu’ is the traditional Japanese practice of sprinkling water on the ground on hot summer days to cool down. It has been passed down since the Edo period.

As the sprinkled water evaporates, it takes away heat from the surrounding area, lowering the temperature and making it feel cooler. 

To help lower the temperature in Shinagawa, let's all use recycled water, such as leftover bathwater, to conduct Uchimizu.

「打ち水大作戦しながわ2025」を開催しています。

「真夏の気温を2℃下げよう」をキャッチフレーズに、打ち水で真夏のまちに涼しい風を吹かせましょう。

「打ち水」とは、夏の暑い日に水をまくことで涼を得る、江戸時代から伝わる暮らしの知恵です。

まいた水が蒸発する時に周りの熱を奪い、気温が下がるため涼しく感じます。

しながわの気温を下げるため、お風呂の残り湯などの再利用水を使って、みんなで打ち水をしましょう。
